Dr. William Maddox – A Legacy of Leadership Rooted in Community
William Maddox has spent his career doing more than managing schools — he’s been building trust, shaping futures, and standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the people of Crossville and Cumberland County for three generations. Known for his steady leadership and deep community roots, William has become a cornerstone in local education, athletics, and beyond.
As a dedicated educational leader and athletic administrator, he has guided policy development, supported student success, and helped transform programs through a strategic, heartfelt approach. From integrating ACT prep into everyday learning to implementing trauma-informed practices and restructuring alternative education, William’s work reflects both innovation and compassion.
In athletics, he’s led with a coach’s eye for detail and a mentor’s belief in growth — ensuring safe, competitive, and character-building experiences for student-athletes. Whether drafting system-wide policies, advising school leaders, or inspiring coaches, he brings clarity, consistency, and care to every corner of the district.
A proud 64-year-old with a love for motorcycle adventures and a drive for personal fitness, William blends grit with grace. His Southern storytelling, sense of humor, and genuine connection to his community make him not just a leader — but a legacy.
In a world of change, William Maddox remains the consistent voice, the guiding hand, and the neighbor generations have come to trust.
A Note from Curriculum & Instruction
The goal of curriculum and instruction is to provide information to improve student academic excellence by implementing criteria that targets content standards as well as communicating policy and expectations. We are also dedicated to providing instructional guidance.
Academic Standards
Academic standards provide a common set of expectations for what students will know and be able to do at the end of a grade. College and career ready standards are rooted in the knowledge and skills students need to succeed in post-secondary study or careers.
While academic standards establish desired learning outcomes, curriculum provides instructional programming designed to help students reach these outcomes. Districts work locally to establish curricular programs that support student mastery of Tennessee’s academic standards, while reflecting unique community values. Instructional practices should provide each student with the best opportunity to meet these standards by supporting individual learning needs.
