Kimberly Whitson Herring was teacher at Cumberland County High School for 29 years. Overthe course of her time at CCHS, she has taught a variety of math classes, physics, computer programming, and visual art. In addition to teaching high school courses, Kim has also been an adjunct faculty member at Roane State Community College since the mid-90s. In 2014, she filled an interim position as Student Information Administrator.

Her dedication to education led to being named Cumberland County 9-12 Teacher of the Year for 2017-18. Outside the classroom, Kim has worked as a Core Coach, a member of the Tennessee Mathematics Standards Review Committee, a member of the TDOE TN Item Review and Item Writer Committees, and a district leader in Mathematics. Kim holds both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from Tennessee Technological University.

A student information system (SIS) is a management information system for education establishments to manage student data. Student information systems provide capabilities for registering students in courses, documenting grading, transcripts, results of student tests and other assessment scores, building student schedules, tracking student attendance, and managing many other student-related data needs in a school. Some of the services provided by a SIS include:

  • Maintenance and reporting of student data
  • Handling inquiries from prospective students and parents
  • Handling the admissions process
  • Enrolling new students and enabling online scheduling
  • Creating class and teacher schedules
  • Handling records of examinations, assessments, marks, grades and academic progression
  • Maintaining records of absences and attendance
  • Maintaining discipline records
  • Providing statistical reports
  • Communicating student details to parents or other authorized persons through the Family Access portal
  • Special Education / Individual Education Plan (IEP) services
  • Career services management for student portfolios and matching with potential employers
